Chachin Grazing Festival celebrated in Arunachal Pradesh
The local graziers of the Tawang region near Bumla Pass, Arunachal Pradesh, celebrated the Chachin grazing festival on July 14-15. The two-day event held at Chachin saw enthusiastic participation from Graziers from all over the Tawang region. The event was attended by nearly 100 graziers and their herd of yaks numbering more than 400.
The festival featured a medical camp for aiding the local graziers who often live in remote locations without the medical facilities prevalent in urban areas.
A veterinary camp was also organised to provide similar medical support to the animals- yaks of the local graziers- along with a lecture on animal health that would facilitate the graziers in ensuring better care for their livestock.
Chachin along with other traditional grazing areas near Bumla Pass, has long been integral to the local Monpa lifestyle, which heavily relies on nomadic herding as a primitive form of subsistence farming. This event not only highlighted the importance of these grazing grounds to the local Monpa community but also showcased the passion and enthusiasm demonstrated by the local graziers.
