D.K. Shivakumar to Be Sworn in as Karnataka Chief Minister on June 3
In a significant political development in a state of Karnataka, as D.K. Shivakumar set to take oath as the new Chief Minister of state on 3rd June, 2026. The State Congress President was unanimously elected as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) and formally staked the claim to form the government before Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot.
The Congress Legislature Party has unanimously elected the D.K. Shivakumar as a new leader during a meeting held at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. Outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has proposed the Shivakumar’s name and senior Congress leader G. Parameshwara seconded the proposal.
The selection was unanimously endorsed by the party legislators and paved the way for Shivakumar to become Karnataka’s next Chief Minister. The CLP meeting was supervised by senior Congress leaders K.C. Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala and highlighted the importance of the leadership transition.
After his election as CLP leader, D.K. Shivakumar met the Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at Raj Bhavan and formally staked claim to form the government. This move came shortly after the legislative party’s decision and completed the constitutional process which required for government formation.
The Governor is expected to formally invite the Shivakumar to take oath and form the new Council of Ministers and it will ensures the continuity of governance following Siddaramaiah’s resignation.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place on June 3rd, 2026, at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan, Bengaluru. The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has decided to organize the simple and low-profile ceremony.

Top party leaders have requested workers not to crowd the venue in order to minimize the inconvenience to the public.
KPCC Working President G.C. Chandrashekar has announced that the ceremony would be conducted in the simple manner. No public passes will be issued and invitations will primarily be limited to the legislators and select guests.
The Congress leadership also stated that Shivakumar would later visit the district headquarters across Karnataka to personally thank party workers and supporters.
D.K. Shivakumar is Karnataka’s one of the most prominent political leaders and a senior member of the Indian National Congress.
