Make in India Marks 11 Years of Economic Transformation

India’s First EV Truck Fleet Flagged Off at JNPA

  • India’s first fleet of electric heavy trucks with swappable batteries was flagged off at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) by Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, marking a major push toward sustainable logistics.
  • JNPA aims to convert 90% of its 600-truck fleet to EVs by 2026, making it the largest EV truck fleet in any Indian port.
  • A battery swapping station was also commissioned, supporting operational efficiency and faster turnaround.
  • An MoU with Ashoka University’s Isaac Centre for Public Policy (ICPP) was signed to develop a tariff benchmarking framework for ports.

Tirumala Gets India’s First AI-Based Command Centre for Pilgrims

  • TTD has launched India’s first AI-powered Integrated Command & Control Centre (ICCC) at Tirumala for efficient pilgrim management and safety.

India Nominates IIT-Madras as UN AI Centre of Excellence

  • India has nominated IIT-Madras as a UN Centre of Excellence (COE) for Artificial Intelligence (AI) capacity building and skilling under the UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies (ODET) initiative.
  • Announced by MeitY Secretary S Krishnan at the UN General Assembly, this move supports the Global South in closing the AI capacity gap.

Banking Liquidity Deficit Widens to ₹87,183 Crore

  • The banking system liquidity deficit widened sharply to ₹87,183 crore on September 23, driven by ongoing advance tax and GST outflows after months of surplus since March 2025.
  • To ease the crunch, the RBI conducted an overnight variable rate repo (VRR) auction injecting ₹1.50 lakh crore, accepting bids worth ₹48,980 crore at a 5.51% weighted average rate.
  • Another VRR auction of ₹1.25 lakh crore is planned to further support liquidity.

UPI Launches in Qatar, Boosting Digital Payments Abroad

  • Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has gone live in Qatar, starting with Qatar Duty Free at Hamad Airport, making Qatar the eighth country to enable UPI for Indian travelers abroad.
  • This move, facilitated by a partnership between NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL), Qatar National Bank (QNB), and NETSTARS, allows Indians to make cashless, real-time payments via apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, and BHIM.

India’s GDP to Grow 6.5% in FY26: S&P

  • S&P Global Ratings has retained India’s GDP growth forecast at 6.5% for the current fiscal, citing strong domestic demand, a benign monsoon, and rising government investment.
  • The agency also lowered inflation projections to 3.2%, expecting a 25 bps rate cut by the RBI this year.

Sudhanshu Vats Appointed President of ASCI, Subramanyeswar Vice Chair

  • Sudhanshu Vats, Managing Director of Pidilite Industries Ltd, has been appointed as the new President of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI), with S Subramanyeswar of MullenLowe Global named as vice chairman.

New Eel Species Apterichtus kanniyakumari Discovered off Tamil Nadu Coast

  • Apterichtus kanniyakumari is a newly discovered species of finless snake eel found off the Colachel coast.
  • Named after Kanniyakumari, it belongs to the genus Apterichtus and is distinguished by its golden-yellow body, pale white ventral head with yellow lines, and three unique black blotches.
  • Molecular analysis of the mitochondrial CO1 gene shows it forms a distinct clade close to Apterichtus nanjilnaduensis.
  • Snake eels, from the family Ophichthidae, inhabit shallow sandy seas and use their tails to burrow backwards for protection.
