Delhi PM Surya Ghar Portal Launched: Rooftop Solar Subsidy Up to ₹1.56 Lakh

Respectable Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the “Delhi PM Surya Ghar” registration portal on Monday, 21st of September 2026, under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. Residents can register at the solar.delhi.gov.in for rooftop solar systems and access information on subsidies, authorised vendors and complaints. Registrations will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. The Centre and the Delhi government together offer up to ₹1.56 lakh for systems of up to 3 kW.

Subsidy Structure

The Centre provides a subsidy of up to ₹78,000 for the systems of up to 3 kW. The Delhi government also adds a matching ₹78,000, which take the total to ₹1.56 lakh.

The portal lists the central subsidy at ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 per kW for additional capacity up to 3 kW. The central subsidy is capped at ₹78,000. The exact amount for a household depends on system capacity and scheme provisions.

Key Features of the Delhi Scheme

• Zero upfront payment: domestic consumers using up to 400 units a month can get systems of up to 3 kW installed without paying upfront
• Compact systems: systems of up to 2 kW are encouraged for homes with limited roof space. The state has reportedly set a target that half of consumers install smaller systems.
• Group housing societies: the subsidy for common-area solar installations has been raised from ₹2,000 per kW to ₹11,000 per kW
• Low-use consumers: those in the 0–200 unit bracket get an additional incentive for reducing consumption after installing solar
• Maintenance: Authorised vendors will operate and maintain the systems for the first five years after Installation
• Target: about 2.30 lakh families
• Portal tools: a rooftop solar calculator estimates the feasible capacity, cost, subsidy and savings

Power Minister Ashish Sood said the initiative would help Delhi become a “Solar Capital”. Applications opened at 2:30 pm on 21 September 2026, according to the official portal.

NDMC Council Decisions

Separately, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) passed 28 agendas at a meeting chaired by Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, as announced by Vice-Chairman Kuljeet Chahal. Key decisions:

• Water bills: a one-time amnesty waiving the Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC) on pending bills
• Vehicles: all new NDMC vehicles will be electric
• EV parking: a 50 per cent discount on parking charges for EVs at NDMC lots
• Ayush hospital: in-principle approval for a 50-bedded hospital in Sarojini Nagar, estimated at ₹55 crore and to be developed as a 50:50 partnership between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and NDMC
• Street lighting: about ₹18.5–19 crore for the new poles of 6 to 11 metres to remove dark spots
• Dhobi Ghats: electricity billed at residential meter rates instead of commercial rates
• Parking tenders: an RFP across three clusters, expected to yield more than ₹7 crore a month, with an Intelligent Integrated Parking System
• Examination centre: a “Palika Adarsh Pariksha Kendra” (Model Municipal Examination Centre) in Moti Bagh

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana Explained

The Union Cabinet approved the scheme with an outlay of ₹75,021 crore for rooftop solar on one crore households and up to 300 units of free electricity a month. The Prime Minister launched it on 13 February 2024. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) implements it, and households apply through the National Portal.

The central subsidy is 60 per cent of system cost for a 2 kW system and 40 per cent of the additional cost between 2 and 3 kW. It is capped at 3 kW.
