On Sunday, November 19, the film industry lost a creative force with the sudden demise of renowned filmmaker Sanjay Gadhvi. Best known for directing the blockbuster films “Dhoom” (2004) and its sequel “Dhoom 2” (2006), Gadhvi’s contribution to Indian cinema has left an indelible mark.
Sanjay Gadhvi, aged 56, passed away at his Mumbai home, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate with audiences. His untimely departure occurred just three days before he would have celebrated his 57th birthday.
Sanjay Gadhvi was born to Manubhai Gadhvi, a prominent figure in Gujarati folk literature. Gadhvi clinched the title of ‘Hottest Young Filmmaker‘ at the 2007 Stardust Awards for his work on Dhoom 2 (2006).
Gadhvi’s directorial journey began in 2000 with “Tere Liye,” but it was his third venture, “Dhoom,” that catapulted him to fame. The film’s success led to the highly acclaimed 2006 sequel, “Dhoom 2,” featuring a star-studded cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Bipasha Basu.
Gadhvi didn’t limit himself to a single genre. In 2002, he collaborated with Yash Raj Films for “Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai,” showcasing his versatility as a director. Over the years, he worked on diverse projects such as “Kidnap” (2008), “Ajab Gazabb Love” (2012), and “Operation Parindey” (2020), his final directorial venture.
While Gadhvi directed the first two installments of the “Dhoom” franchise, the third installment, released in 2013, was helmed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. The movie featured Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Aamir Khan, and Katrina Kaif, marking a new chapter in the series.
