EPFO on WhatsApp: Check What Services Members May Get
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has established its official WhatsApp Channel, providing members and pensioners another digital avenue to receive updates on their provident fund accounts, schemes, and notifications. The development is in line with the digital accessibility initiatives by the EPFO. Currently, the EPFO WhatsApp Channel acts as an information service. The provision of facilities such as checking your PF balance, recent transaction details, and tracking EPF claims is likely to follow as the service grows.
The EPFO WhatsApp Channel is an official communication channel whereby members receive direct information from the EPFO.
The channel will provide you with information regarding,
The EPFO has advertised the channel via its official communication channels. Members can access the channel through the official link or QR code provided by the organisation.
It is crucial that the EPFO WhatsApp Channel does not function like as an interactive chatbot on the WhatsApp. While the former broadcasts information, the latter provides interactive facilities where you can place specific account requests.
Based on the reports of the digitalization process by EPFO, it is believed that the interactive WhatsApp facilities will eventually enable members to access regular information regarding PF.
Anticipated facilities are as follows,
The above mentioned facilities will make it less necessary for members to access other portals to get basic information regarding their account.
However, the initiation of the WhatsApp channel does not imply that all the above mentioned facilities are now available to the members.
Such an application based on WhatsApp can enable members to initiate interaction with EPFO via its authenticated account, which may even begin with the member typing “Hello”. Different menu-driven options would then help them avail themselves of various services offered.
In case of personalized services, authentication is essential to ensure security of personal data of members. Language localization is anticipated to facilitate easy use of digital services by a large number of EPFO members.
Prior to the launch of such an interactive facility, members need to continue using existing digital applications of EPFO.
The WhatsApp project is by no means a substitute for other digital services of EPFO. Members can still access their existing accounts through the use of EPFO member portal, passbook facility and the UMANG application.
The project is one of several projects designed to bring modernity into the EPFO services. The others include a new UPI based PF withdrawal scheme, higher threshold of automatic claim settlement, automatic PF transfer upon change of jobs and also creation of a common database system aimed at cutting down on time.
While using WhatsApp for public service delivery increases the risk of impersonation and fraud, members should only rely on the official and verified EPFO channels.
Do not give any OTP, passwords, or banking credentials to anyone posing as EPFO. The members should also avoid any unauthorized links offering instant withdrawal of PF funds.
