FIDE World Cup 2025 to Be Hosted in Goa

India continues its meteoric rise in global chess with Goa set to host the FIDE World Cup 2025 from October 30 to November 27. This prestigious event, organized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), will bring together 206 top players from over 90 countries, competing for a $2 million prize pool and three coveted spots in the 2026 Candidates Tournament.

Format and Structure of the Tournament

High-Stakes Knockout Format

The FIDE World Cup 2025 will follow an eight-round knockout structure, where each match consists of,

  • Two classical games
  • Rapid and blitz tie-breakers, if required

The top 50 seeds will receive byes into the second round, offering a tactical advantage in this intense, survival-based format.
