Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri Gets One-Year Extension

The Government of India has extended the tenure of the current Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri by one year. This extension was announced through an official government order on 1st of July, 2026. He is a 1989 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer. He served in the several high-profile diplomatic and strategic positions over a long distinguished career which spanning more than three decades.

Centre Extends Tenure of Vikram Misri

On 1st of July, 2026, under the new government order Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will continue in office for another one year.

Misri has assumed the charge as India’s Foreign Secretary on 15th July 2024 and he succeeded the Vinay Mohan Kwatra.

The latest extension reflects the trust in his role and also ensures continuity in the Ministry of External Affairs amid rising, dynamic global strategic environment.
