FSSAI Launches Official Vegan Logo to Improve Consumer Awareness and Transparency
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced the standardized vegan logo for the approved vegan food products in India. The new logo will become mandatory from 1st July in 2027 and it aims to provide the consumers with a clear and reliable way to identify vegan foods. This move is expected to strengthen transparency, prevent misleading claims and promote the environmentally sustainable food choices in India.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has notified the standardized logo that will serve as the official identification mark for the all vegan food products which are sold in India.
Under the amended Food Safety and Standards (Vegan Foods) Regulations, all the approved vegan food packages must display the logo in the prescribed format.
This initiative seeks to establish a uniform national identity for the vegan foods and try to help consumers easily distinguish them from conventional food products containing the ingredients derived from animals.
This new requirement will become mandatory from 1st July 2027.
The official vegan logo introduced by the FSSAI has been designed to provide the instant recognition for consumers.
Features of the Logo
The logo signifies that the product is certified vegan and free from the ingredients, additives or processing the aids derived from animals.
As the growing popularity of the vegan diets has created a need for clear and transparent product identification. Earlier, consumers often had to carefully examine ingredient lists to determine whether a product was genuinely vegan or not.

The move also aligns with the international best practices in food labelling and consumer protection.
FSSAI has introduced the mandatory requirements through an amendment notified on 21 May 2026. This amendment provides the food businesses with sufficient time to update packaging and comply with the new regulations.
Important Dates Regarding Implementation
Food manufacturers who are producing the approved vegan products will need to ensure that the official logo appears on the packaging before the implementation deadline.
Vegan foods are that products which do not contains any ingredients, additives or processing aids which directly derived from animals.
Unlike the vegetarian foods, vegan foods completely exclude the animal-origin ingredients.
