GeM Marks 9th Anniversary, Achieves ₹5.4 Lakh Crore GMV in FY 2024–25

The Government e Marketplace (GeM) has marked its 9th Foundation Day with a record achievement—registering ₹5.4 lakh crore in Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) for the financial year 2024–25. Launched in 2016 to promote transparent, inclusive, and efficient public procurement, GeM has grown into India’s premier digital procurement platform, linking a diverse base of sellers and service providers to government buyers.

Nine Years of Growth and Inclusion

Over the past nine years, GeM has onboarded,

  • 1.5 lakh women-led enterprises
  • Startups and self-help groups (SHGs)
  • Artisans and micro and small enterprises (MSEs)

These efforts have been central to GeM’s mission of making public procurement accessible to all, from rural artisans to tech startups.

Foundation Day 2025: Theme and Reforms

The 9th Foundation Day celebrations were held under the theme “Ease, Access and Inclusion”, with several key reforms announced to enhance seller participation,

  • Elimination of caution money for sellers
  • Rationalisation of vendor assessment fees
  • Reduction in transaction charges, with 97% of orders now exempt

Events to Mark the Milestone

Two major events highlighted the anniversary celebrations,

  • GeM Seller Samvad – Held on 6 August at GeM’s New Delhi office, bringing together participants from varied sectors.
  • GeM Manthan – A dialogue programme to explore strategies for creating a more inclusive and future-ready procurement system.
