Indian chess continues to rise globally, and Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa added another remarkable achievement to India’s sporting history in December 2025. The 20-year-old Indian prodigy won the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Circuit 2025 with 115.17 points, topping a year-long leaderboard featuring the world’s strongest players.

With this victory, he becomes the only male player to qualify through the FIDE Circuit and officially books his place in the Candidates Tournament 2026, the final stage to determine the challenger for the World Chess Championship 2026.

This marks Praggnanandhaa’s second consecutive Candidates appearance, strengthening India’s presence in elite global chess.

What is the FIDE Circuit 2025?

The FIDE Circuit 2025 was a year-long qualification path comprising top-level tournaments held from January to December 2025. Players scored points based on performance and tournament strength, with final standings based on the sum of their seven best results.
