Government e Marketplace (GeM) Celebrates 7 Years of SWAYATT Initiative

The Government e Marketplace (GeM) celebrated the completion of seven years of the SWAYATT initiative. This is a flagship programme designed to promote the inclusive public procurement across India. SWAYATT Initiative was Launched on 19 February in the year 2019. The SWAYATT initiative on GeM focuses on helping startups, women entrepreneurs, youth, SHGs and micro enterprises. This also gave access government procurement markets. Over the years participation has increased significantly.

Seven Year Journey of SWAYATT Initiative on GeM

The celebration of the seven year journey of the SWAYATT initiative on GeM brought together policymakers, entrepreneurs and ecosystem partners to reflect on the initiative’s progress. Related Officials highlighted how digital procurement technology is transforming the public procurement system in India.

Entrepreneurs also shared experiences about how the SWAYATT initiative on GeM helped them connect with government buyers and scale their businesses. The programme demonstrated that technology driven procurement can expand opportunities for startups, women entrepreneurs and small enterprises across the country.

Vision and Objective of SWAYATT Initiative on GeM

The SWAYATT initiative on GeM supports for Startups, Women and Youth Advantage through e Transactions. The programme was introduced to democratize government procurement and expand opportunities for small enterprises.

This initiative focuses on solving three major challenges faced by emerging businesses. The challenges include the limited market access, limited financial opportunities and also lack of value addition in procurement systems.

By using the Government e Marketplace GeM platform the enterprises can directly participate in public procurement processes. The SWAYATT initiative on GeM ensures full transparency, also reduces entry barriers. It also allows startups & women entrepreneurs to supply goods and services to the government buyers.

Women Entrepreneurs Growth under SWAYATT Initiative on GeM

Under this initiative women led businesses have shown remarkable growth on GeM. As participation in government procurement expanded steadily over the last seven years.

The cumulative order value for women entrepreneurs on GeM increased from ₹1,265.62 crore in FY 2018 to 19 to ₹83,323 crore by FY 2025 to 26. During the same period the order volumes grew from 1,01,530 orders to 44,48,894 orders. This highlighting the strong participation of women led enterprises in the SWAYATT initiative on GeM. This growth reflects the increasing role of women entrepreneurs in India’s public procurement ecosystem.

Startup Participation in SWAYATT Initiative on GeM

Startups have also benefited significantly from the SWAYATT initiative on GeM. Startups gaining direct access to government procurement markets through digital platforms.

The cumulative order value for startups on GeM increased from ₹497.24 crore in FY 2018 to 19 to ₹54,005.8 crore by FY 2025 to 26. Also order volumes rose from 17,434 transactions to 5,30,578 transactions. This showing how startups are increasingly becoming suppliers in government procurement systems.

Startup Runway and Womaniya under SWAYATT Initiative on GeM

To strengthen the SWAYATT initiative on GeM the platform introduced specialized digital storefronts designed to increase visibility of startups and women entrepreneurs. The Startup Runway on GeM allows government buyers to discover innovative startup products and services.

Similarly, the Womaniya initiative on GeM highlights products created by women entrepreneurs and SHGs. These initiatives improve discoverability for lakhs of government buyers across India. These features strengthen the SWAYATT initiative on GeM and support inclusive public procurement through the digital marketplace.
