Greenfield International Airport to be built on 2,200 acres in Bhogapuram

The construction of the Greenfield airport was first proposed by the state government after the bifurcation of the state in 2014. Under the leadership of N Chandrababu Naidu, the former TDP government kickstarted the process of acquiring land for the airport and subsequently allocated an area of 2,700 acres to GMR Group to construct the airport. However, legal hurdles related to land acquisition prevented the project from taking off. The Jagan Mohan Reddy government re-initiated the land acquisition process with a new alignment for the airport on 2,200 acres and finalized tenders for construction under Public-Private Partnership mode by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited.
