Guwahati Airport Becomes First In Northeast To Get ‘Digi Yatra’ Facility

In a significant stride towards enhancing the air travel experience in the Northeastern region of India, Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LBBI) has become the first airport in the area to introduce the innovative ‘Digi Yatra‘ facility. This cutting-edge service is set to revolutionize the way passengers navigate through airports, providing a seamless and hassle-free journey.

The Digi Yatra initiative has been introduced in collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, with the goal of modernizing air travel and streamlining airport processes.

A Multifaceted Transformation

The Digi Yatra service will be available at three key zones within the airport: the primary entrance, check-in counters, and boarding areas. Previously, travelers often found themselves waiting in lengthy queues at the Guwahati airport, causing inconvenience and delays. With the introduction of the Digi Yatra facility, these long queues are expected to become a thing of the past, significantly reducing the time and effort required for check-in and security procedures.

The Digi Yatra Initiative Unveiled

The Digi Yatra initiative revolves around the use of facial recognition technology to create a seamless airport journey for passengers. This technological marvel aims to eliminate the need for traditional methods of ticket verification and ID checks at various touchpoints within the airport premises. By utilizing facial recognition, passengers can experience a swift and efficient check-in process, enhancing their overall travel experience.

During the Digi Yatra process, no personally identifiable information (PII) is stored, and all passenger data is encrypted and secured within their smartphone wallet. This advanced approach ensures that passenger information remains confidential while still enabling a seamless travel experience.

The Path Forward

While the Digi Yatra facility is currently available exclusively for IndiGo and Akasa passengers at Guwahati airport, plans are in place to extend its availability to other airlines in the near future. This expansion will provide a more comprehensive and inclusive airport experience for travelers, regardless of their preferred airline.

As the Digi Yatra initiative continues to shape the future of air travel, Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport stands at the forefront of innovation. This trailblazing advancement marks a significant step forward in modernizing the aviation industry and creating a more convenient and efficient airport journey for passengers in the Northeastern region and beyond.
