The state’s capital, Chandigarh, is shared with Punjab, while its most populous city is Faridabad, part of the National Capital Region. Gurgaon, one of India’s largest hubs for finance and technology, is also located in Haryana. The state is divided into six administrative regions, 22 districts, 72 subdivisions, 93 tehsils, 50 sub-tehsils, 140 community development blocks, 154 towns and cities, 7,356 villages, and 6,222 village panchayats.

Sirsa is the largest district in Haryana, spanning approximately 4,277 square kilometers. In contrast, Faridabad is the smallest district, covering just 741 square kilometers. The district headquarters of Faridabad is also named after the district itself.
