IBC celebrated “Dharma Chakra Day” on 4th July

Dharma Chakra Day was celebrated by the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), under the aegis of Ministry of Culture on 4th July. This day commemorates Buddha’s First Sermon to his first five ascetic disciples at the Deer Park, Rsipatana in the present day Sarnath near Varanasi, UP. The day is also observed as Guru Poornima by both Buddhists as well as Hindus as a day to mark reverence to their Gurus.

Buddhists also celebrate the Dharma Chakra Day as the day of Dharma Chakra Parvattana or “Turning of the Wheel of Dharma”. This year, the Dharma Chakra Day was inaugurated by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
