ICAR-CIFE and VAMNICOM Sign MoU to Enhance Cooperative Management in Fisheries
In a significant development, the Central Institute of Fisheries Education (ICAR-CIFE) and the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 26, 2024. This collaboration aims to advance cooperative management in the fisheries sector and supports the vision of establishing 200,000 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), dairy, and fishery cooperatives in every Panchayat.
The partnership targets improving the integration of advanced technology and promoting value addition within fishery cooperatives. By collaborating on education, research, capacity building, and consultancy, ICAR-CIFE and VAMNICOM aim to explore new opportunities in the fisheries ecosystem. This synergy is expected to enhance cooperative management practices and significantly impact the sector.
The ceremony, held at ICAR-CIFE’s Mumbai campus, was attended by Dr. Ravishankar CN, Director and Vice Chancellor of ICAR-CIFE, and Dr. Hema Yadav, Director of VAMNICOM, along with other key members from both institutions. Dr. Ravishankar CN expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing its potential to strengthen research capabilities and training programs. Dr. Hema Yadav highlighted the mutual benefits and opportunities for integrating cooperative management principles into the fisheries sector.
Established on June 6, 1961, under the Ministry of Agriculture, ICAR-CIFE has been a leading Fisheries University with a distinguished heritage. It has developed into a center of excellence for higher education in fisheries and allied disciplines, preparing students to become leaders through innovative educational and research programs.
Founded in 1964, VAMNICOM operates under the Ministry of Cooperation, focusing on training stakeholders in the cooperative sector, including livestock, dairy, and fisheries. The institute conducts research, provides consultancy services, and organizes courses in management to support cooperative business organizations and train youth in management skills.
