ICC Player of the Month: Shubman Gill Sets Record with Fifth Award
India skipper Shubman Gill has bagged his fifth ICC Player of the Month award to add further to his own record in the men’s section. The accolade comes in light of the fantastic performances of Gill in the ODI series against the West Indies, including a hundred and a double century. He is now on par with Hayley Matthews, the captain of the West Indies women’s team, who has five such awards.
The reason for giving this award to Gill was his great performance in the ODI series against the West Indies. In the first match of ODI in Thiruvananthapuram, he scored 110 runs, assisting India to win by eight wickets and thus making India 1-0 ahead in the series.
This was followed by a great performance from him where he smashed a score of 223 runs from 133 balls; which was termed the fastest double century as per the report supplied. This enabled India to chase a target of 406 runs winning by eight wickets.
