Betla National Park is located in the Indian state of Jharkhand, mainly in the Latehar and Palamu districts. It covers an area of about 226 square kilometers and is part of the Palamu Tiger Reserve. The park is around 25 km from Medininagar and about 170 km from Ranchi, the state capital.
Betla was one of the first peaks in India to be included in Project Tiger back in 1974. It officially became a national park in 1986. Project Tiger is a special program by the government to protect endangered tigers.
