In Which State is Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park Located?

In one of India’s vibrant cities, there exists a large green area known for its rich biodiversity and calm surroundings. This protected space preserves a variety of plants, trees and animals, offering a glimpse into the region’s natural heritage. It also holds historical importance, as its grounds were once connected to royal estates, making it a both a natural and cultural treasure.

Location of Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park

Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park is located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It is spread across about 390 acres in the posh areas of Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills. Often called a ”jungle in the middle of the city,” it gives a natural break from the surrounding concrete buildings.

Historical Background of the National Park

The park area was once the property of the Nizam’s family. In 1967, the palace complex was gifted to Prince Mukarram Jah by his father, Prince Azam Jah, during his cooperation. The Andhra Pradesh government declared it a national park in 1998 after getting approval from the central government. In 2020, it was also declared an eco-sensitive zone by the Government of India.

Royal Properties Inside the Park

The park still contains several royal structures, including:

  • Chiran Palace: a modern style palace built in 1940 for the prince.
  • Peacock Bungalow: located on a small hill.
  • Gol Bungalow and stables for elephants, horses and cattle.
  • Motor garages for vintage cars, workshops, petrol pumps, wells and water tanks.

Chiran Palace

Unlike traditional palaces like Falaknuma or Chowmahalla, Chiran Palace looks more like a large villa. It has two basement levels, a billiard room, a large conference hall, guest rooms, a pantry and a kitchen on the ground floor. The first floor has seven bedrooms where the Nizam’s family once lived.

Wildlife and Plants of Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park

The park is rich in biodiversity. It has:

  • Over 600 species of plants.
  • Around 140 species of birds.
  • About 30 types of butterflies and reptiles.

Animals like pangolins, small Indian civets, jungle cats, porcupines and peacocks live here. Small water bodies inside the park help keep the ecosystem healthy.
