The sanctuary is located in Somwarpet taluk of the Kodago district, Karnataka. It shares borders with Bisle Reserve Forest to the north and Kukke Subramanya forest range to the west.

One of the most top tourist spots inside the sanctuary is Mandalpatti, also called Mugilu Pete. It is located 18 km north of Madikeri. The peak is 1250 meters above sea level.
Visitors can take rented 4 x 4 vehicles to reach the top and enjoy the cool air and wide view of green hills.
