The Shahid Chandra Shekhar Azad Bird Sanctuary, earlier known as Nawabganj Bird Sanctuary, is a famous bird watching place in India. It is located in the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh. This sanctuary lies on the Kanpur-Lucknow highway and has a beautiful lake surrounded by trees and wetland areas.

Name of the Sanctuary

This sanctuary was renamed in 2015 to honor freedom fighter Chandra Shekhar Azad. It is in Uttar Pradesh, a northern Indian state known for its rich wildlife and culture. The sanctuary is easy to reach from both Lucknow and Kanpur cities.

Birds in the Sanctuary

The sanctuary is home to around 250 species of birds. Many of these birds are migratory and travel from places like Siberia, China, Tibet and Europe during the winter season.

  • Red-crested pochard
  • Shoveller

The sanctuary is also home to different types of snakes, list:

  • Viper
  • Krait
  • Ratsnake
  • Water snakes

Hospitality and Facilities at the Sanctuary

Visitors can stay at a guesthouse inside the sanctuary. There is also a restaurant and a children’s park, making it a nice spot for family trips. People can enjoy boating and watch birds from watchtowers.
