Independence Day 2026: Vande Mataram to Be Sung from Red Fort for First Time

The 80th Independence Day of India on 15th August, 2026, will see an important modification made to the ceremonial schedule at the Red Fort. It will be for the first time that the Indian national song Vande Mataram will be played from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Independence Day. As stated by the Ministry of Defence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach the ramparts before playing the national song, with all standing. After this, the Prime Minister will unfurl the National Flag and play the National Anthem.

The most important modification in the Independence Day of India 2026 ceremony will be playing of Vande Mataram as a part of the ceremonial sequence at the Red Fort.

According to Defence Secretary R K Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will first reach the ramparts of the Red Fort. After this, Vande Mataram will be played while all stand.

The Prime Minister will then unfurl the National Flag and play the National Anthem.

The Defence Secretary called it as a new sequence in the ceremony, which will be followed for the first time in 2026.
