India and Poland Agree to Boost Defence, Space and Nuclear Energy Cooperation
India and Poland have agreed to strengthen cooperation in defence, space, nuclear energy and emerging technologies following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in New Delhi during Tusk’s official visit from 21 to 23 October 2026.
In their joint statement, the two leaders highlighted cooperation in critical and emerging technologies, cybersecurity and defence innovation. They also agreed to strengthen trusted supply chains and work towards the shared goal of doubling bilateral trade by 2030.
India and Poland agreed to deepen defence and security cooperation, including stronger engagement between their defence industries. The leaders proposed a Defence Industry Dialogue to develop a framework for industrial collaboration.
Potential areas of cooperation include technology partnerships, co-development, co-production and business-to-business engagement, subject to mutual agreement. Both countries also highlighted the importance of cybersecurity, defence innovation and critical technologies.
The leaders recognised space cooperation as an important pillar of the India–Poland Strategic Partnership and encouraged stronger institutional and industry-level engagement.
They also identified opportunities for cooperation in semiconductors and other emerging technologies. Discussions covered potential collaboration in nuclear energy, battery recycling, rare-earth mineral refining, geology, mining and critical minerals. A memorandum of understanding on geology and mining was reported to be under negotiation.
India and Poland established a shared target of doubling bilateral trade by 2030. The leaders encouraged businesses to explore opportunities in industrial machinery, defence, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, mining, critical minerals, energy and information technology.
Both sides emphasised resilient and diversified supply chains, innovation-led growth and stronger cooperation between businesses, research institutions and small and medium-sized enterprises.
Both leaders condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all forms, including cross-border terrorism. They strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on 22 April 2025, and called for coordinated international action against terrorist groups and entities.
They also called for efforts to eliminate terrorist safe havens and infrastructure, disrupt terrorism-financing networks and strengthen international counterterrorism cooperation.
India and Poland reaffirmed their commitment to a free, open, peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific. They emphasised respect for international law, freedom of navigation and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
India invited Poland to join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI). The two leaders also discussed multilateral cooperation and reform of the United Nations, including expansion of the UN Security Council.
