India bags 11 medals in World Archery Youth Championships, 2023

India has secured the second position with an impressive haul of 11 medals, including six gold, one silver, and four bronze in the recently concluded biannual event, 2023 World Archery Youth Championships in Limerick, Ireland. Parth Salunkhe, a rising Indian archer created history by becoming the first Indian male archer to win the Youth World Championship in the recurve category. A grand total of 518 archers (comprising 277 men and 241 women) from 58 different countries participated in both individual and team events.

Parth Salunkhe Clinches Gold in Recurve Under-21 Men’s Individual Category

Parth Salunkhe’s exceptional performance captivated the archery world as he triumphed in the recurve under-21 men’s individual category. In an intense final, Salunkhe overcame a strong challenge from Korean archer Song In Jun, securing a 7-3 victory. Demonstrating his precision and composure, Salunkhe hit the bull’s eye twice to clinch the world title, making history as the first Indian male archer to achieve this feat. Salunkhe’s journey to the top was filled with remarkable victories, including wins over archers from the Czech Republic, Turkey, Chinese Taipei, and Germany.

Bhajan Kaur’s Bronze Medal Triumph in Women’s Under-21 Individual Category

Bhajan Kaur of India achieved a bronze medal in the Under-21 women’s recurve individual event by defeating Su Hsien-yu from Chinese Taipei. India’s success extended to the women’s under-21 individual category, where Bhajan Kaur showcased her skills and determination. Kaur faced Chinese Taipei’s Su Hsin-yu in the bronze medal match and emerged victorious with a resounding 7-1 win.

South Korea Reigns Supreme

South Korea proved its dominance in the world of archery by emerging as the top-ranked nation at the 2023 World Archery Youth Championships. The South Korean archers claimed a total of 10 medals, including six gold and four silver medals. Their consistent performances reaffirm South Korea’s reputation as a powerhouse in the sport.

Last year’s performance

India clinched a total of 15 medals, including eight golds, at the World Archery Youth Championships hosted in Wroclaw, Poland in 2021.
