India Became The Leader In Coconut Production with Over 30% Share

India has been reinforced its position as the world’s largest coconut producer. This number is for contributing over the 30% to global output. The government has also  announced a new Coconut Promotion Scheme in Budget 2026-27 to boost production and improve productivity. India dominates the global coconut production with a share of 30.37%.

This number is making it the largest producer in the world.

Coconut cultivation is plays the vital role in the country’s agricultural economy and rural livelihoods.

India cultivates the coconut on approximately 2165.20 thousand hectares out of the global 12390 thousand hectares.

The country produces the around 21,373.62 million nuts annually.

Coconut Productivity and Farmer Dependence in India

Coconut farming in India supports the large population and it making it one of the most important plantation crops.

Nearly 30 million people and including about 10 million farmers are depend on this sector for their livelihood.

The average productivity of coconut stands at around 9,871 nuts per hectare.

Coconut Promotion Scheme in Budget 2026-27

The central government has introduced the Coconut Promotion Scheme as part of Budget 2026-27.

This scheme was introduced to strengthen India coconut production and improve farm efficiency.

This scheme will focuses on increasing yield and ensuring sustainable farming practices.

The scheme includes replacing old and unproductive trees with new high yielding varieties.
