India has hosted the ISO TC 20/SC 14 international meetings on “Space Systems and Operations” for the first time. The meetings were organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in New Delhi and brought together global experts, space agencies, industry leaders, and policymakers.
The event reflects India’s growing influence in the global space sector and its increasing role in shaping international standards for space activities.
The Bureau of Indian Standards organised the 35th Plenary and Working Group meetings of ISO TC 20/SC 14 in New Delhi.
This is the first time India has hosted these important international meetings related to space systems and operations.
The meetings focused on global standards for space missions, safety, sustainability, interoperability, and operational practices.
ISO TC 20/SC 14 is a subcommittee under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, said India is proud to host the meeting at a time when the country is emerging as a major global space hub.
She highlighted that reforms and the establishment of IN-SPACe have created opportunities for both startups and established industries.
According to her, global standards will help make space activities safer, more sustainable, and inclusive.
Sanjay Garg, Director General of BIS, stressed the importance of standardisation in ensuring quality, safety, and global competitiveness.
He said BIS is aligning Indian standards with international frameworks to support the fast-changing needs of the space industry.
He also noted that hosting the event in India allows Indian experts to contribute directly to global standard-setting discussions.
