  • India has become the world’s third-largest producer and consumer of electricity.
  • Installed power capacity has reached nearly 540 GW.
  • More than 50% of installed power capacity now comes from non-fossil fuel sources.
  • Solar power capacity has increased from around 3 GW in 2014 to over 154 GW.
  • The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is accelerating rooftop solar adoption across the country.

The Minister also highlighted India’s future goals of achieving:

  • Over 400 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2032.
  • 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047.
  • 20% ethanol blending, achieved ahead of schedule.

Major Outcomes of India’s BRICS Chairship

Launch of BRICS Digital Centre of Excellence

A key outcome of the meeting was the launch of the BRICS Digital Centre of Excellence (DCoE) for Smart Grids and Energy Storage under the BRICS Energy Research Cooperation Platform (ERCP).
