India-Italy Special Strategic Partnership Explained: Key Outcomes from PM Modi’s Italy Visit

Honorable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced the Special Strategic Partnership. This announcement came as PM Modi’s visit to Italy. This move marks the one of the biggest diplomatic upgradation to the India’s ties with the major European nation in the recent years.

India and Italy Upgrade Bilateral Ties to Special Strategic Partnership

The major announcement from the visit was the elevation of the India-Italy relations to a Special Strategic Partnership.

This diplomatic upgrade reflects the growing political trust, stronger economic cooperation and expanding strategic alignment between New Delhi and Rome.

The two leaders also agreed to hold annual leadership meetings including during the multilateral summits, to maintain momentum in bilateral engagement.

Also a Foreign Ministers-led review mechanism will monitor the implementation of the India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029.
