India Opens First Integrative Oncology Centre at AIIA Goa

On 10th National Ayurveda Day, the Ministry of Ayush inaugurated India’s first Integrative Oncology Research and Care Centre (IORCC) at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in Dhargal, Goa. This pioneering facility is set to revolutionize cancer rehabilitation by combining Ayurveda, Yoga, Panchakarma, and modern oncology under one roof. Designed as a centre for both treatment and research, the IORCC aims to offer evidence-informed, patient-centric care — a significant shift in how cancer recovery is approached in India.

The Vision Behind the Centre

Integrating Traditional Wisdom with Modern Science

  • The IORCC embodies a transformative approach: blending traditional Ayush systems with conventional oncology to support cancer patients not just through treatment, but also recovery and rehabilitation.
  • The goal is to reduce side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, strengthen immunity, and improve overall quality of life.
  • The initiative reflects a growing belief in India’s health ecosystem — that modern and traditional systems can coexist and collaborate, with scientific validation, to deliver better health outcomes.

What Makes IORCC Unique

Multidisciplinary Healing Model

IORCC integrates a wide range of therapies including,

  • Ayurveda and Panchakarma for detoxification and immune support
  • Yoga and physiotherapy for physical and mental recovery
  • Diet therapy tailored to cancer patients’ nutritional needs
  • Modern oncology care including chemotherapy and surgery

This makes it India’s first centre to deliver holistic oncology care within a scientific framework.

Backed by Premier Institutions

  • The centre has been launched in collaboration with ACTREC, the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer, part of the Tata Memorial Centre.
  • This partnership ensures that traditional therapies used at IORCC are evaluated and guided by rigorous research and safety protocols.

Research and Training Focus

Beyond clinical services, IORCC will serve as a hub for research and academic training in integrative oncology. It aims to,

  • Develop validated integrative protocols
  • Build capacity in AYUSH-based cancer care
  • Train healthcare professionals across systems

This reinforces the government’s push for Centres of Excellence under the Ayush mission.

Key Takeaway

  • India’s first Integrative Oncology Research and Care Centre was inaugurated in September 2025 at AIIA Goa.
  • It combines Ayurveda, Yoga, Panchakarma, and modern cancer treatments to offer holistic, evidence-informed care and research.
