India retains top status in International Flight Safety Standards

India’s International Aviation Safety Assessment rating has been reaffirmed as Category One, indicating that the country satisfies global standards for aviation safety oversight. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States conducted an audit of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in the domains of aircraft operations, airworthiness, and personnel licensing, following which India was granted Category One status.

The DGCA’s commitment to ensuring the effective safety oversight of India’s aviation system was recognized by the FAA, which granted India Category One status.

Under its International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) program, the FAA evaluates a country’s compliance with safety standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Significance of this status:

This status permits Category One countries to operate and expand their services to destinations in the USA and engage in codeshare agreements with US air carriers.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation expressed that India’s attainment of Category One status is a testament to the country’s dedication to effective safety oversight for its civil aviation system, and this achievement has come at a time when India’s aviation industry is experiencing robust growth.
