India Sends 10 Tonnes of Relief Aid to Nepal After Deadly Floods

The Indian government has sent 10 tons of the disaster relief and humanitarian aid to Nepal as a result of floods which have claimed lives and resulted in numerous people being reported missing. The materials, which include medicine and emergency supplies, were delivered using the Indian Air Force C-130J plane as part of the ongoing efforts for rescue and relief operations. In his statement, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar affirmed India’s readiness to support Nepal and its citizens during this time.

India Sends Emergency Relief Materials to Nepal

The package of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief materials, popularly referred to as HADR package, is packed with supplies required in affected areas due to floods.

According to Jaishankar, the 10 tonnes of aid include the following items,

  • Tents
  • Blankets
  • Hygiene Kits
  • Solar Lamps
  • Medicines

The aid materials have been sent to support Nepal in managing the disaster and help those displaced and affected by floods.

The transportation of these materials was made possible through a C-130J aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force.

Jaishankar Says India Stands With Nepal

Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar conveyed his sympathies to those who lost their near and dear ones in floods and reiterated India’s support for Nepal.

He informed that India has sent humanitarian assistance and medicines for helping Nepal manage the disaster.

Amit Shah Sounds Alarm Bell in Border Areas

The Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended his condolences for the casualties in the disaster and said that the Indian government was helping Nepal during the disaster.

As per Amit Shah, he talked to the Chief Ministers of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh regarding the impact of the natural disaster on the areas near the India-Nepal border.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local authorities and rescue teams were put on high alert in the vulnerable border areas in which the effects of the flooding may reach.

This is being done as a safety measure in order to be ready in case of an increase in water level or in case of floods in the bordering Indian areas.

Prime Minister of Nepal Appeals for Unity and Help

The Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah asked the citizens to maintain unity amid the operation of rescue and relief operations in the affected areas especially Rasuwa district.

According to him, the first priority of the government would be to rescue the wounded people, identify the missing people and also provide them with food, shelter and medical facilities.

The government kept 100 beds at the Bir Hospital and the National Trauma Centre of Kathmandu for the free medical treatment of the injured victims.

Advice Issued to Indian Nationals Stuck Due to Floods

The Indian Embassy in China has also issued advice to Indian nationals stuck due to floods in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Citizens who were stuck due to floods have been advised to contact local Chinese authorities and get in touch with the Indian Embassies in Beijing and Kathmandu.
