Indian Army & IAF Sign MoU with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya to Boost Logistics Skills

On September 09, 2024, the Indian Army and Indian Air Force signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya in Vadodara. This collaboration aims to enhance the logistics capabilities of personnel and align with national development plans such as the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan 2021 and the National Logistics Policy 2022. The agreement was formalized in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh and Railways Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Importance of the MoU

The MoU will focus on developing higher expertise in logistics, enabling the Indian Army and Air Force to build in-house proficiency across various logistics operations. This initiative supports the national goal of self-reliance in defense and aims to improve the efficiency of logistics systems, which are crucial for rapid mobilization and resource allocation.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the partnership as a monumental step toward strengthening the logistics backbone of the Armed Forces. He emphasized that logistics is not just a support function but a critical component of military operations and national security. Singh highlighted the role of efficient logistics in the seamless movement of troops and resources.

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed confidence in Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya’s potential to provide cutting-edge logistics education, research, and innovation. He noted that the university would play a crucial role in empowering the Armed Forces with advanced logistics expertise.

Located in Vadodara, Gujarat, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya is India’s first university dedicated to transportation and logistics. Sponsored by the Ministry of Railways, it aims to support the logistics and transportation sectors through specialized education and research.

Future Prospects

The MoU is expected to contribute significantly to the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and the National Logistics Policy by improving logistics systems and capabilities within the Armed Forces. The collaboration underscores the commitment to integrating knowledge, innovation, and strategic logistics management in defense operations.
