Indian Athletes Shine at 21st U-20 Asian Athletics Championship 2024

The Indian athletes continued their impressive medal-winning spree at the 21st U-20 Asian Athletics Championship 2024, with Harshit Kumar clinching a gold medal in the highly competitive Hammer throw event. His outstanding throw of 66.7 meters secured India’s latest gold at the prestigious event.

Medal Tally Soars

As the third day of the championship drew to a close, the Indian contingent had amassed a total of 18 medals, including five from the latest round of events. The haul consisted of one gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, further cementing India’s position as a powerhouse in Asian athletics.

Silver Streak

Ritik kicked off India’s medal rush by securing a silver medal in the men’s discus throw event. Laxita Sandilea, the reigning gold medalist from the previous year’s event in Yecheon, had to settle for a silver this time around in the women’s 800-metre race, clocking an impressive 2 minutes 07.10 seconds.

The mixed relay team of P. Abiram, Kanista Teena, Navpreet Singh, and Sandramol Sabu also contributed to India’s silver medal tally with their time of 3 minutes 24.86 seconds.

Bronze Brilliance

Prateek secured a bronze medal in the hammer throw event with a commendable throw of 65.97 meters, while Shreeya Rajesh won a bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles, clocking 59.20 seconds.

Qualifying for World U20 Championships

The 21st Asian U20 Athletics Championship, organized by the Asian Athletics Association in association with the UAE Athletics Federation in Dubai, serves as a qualifying event for the 2024 World U20 Athletics Championships. The global event is set to take place in Lima, Peru, from August 27 to 31, 2024.

Indian Contingent Shines

With 60 Indian athletes, including 31 men and 29 women, participating in the championship, India has already secured an impressive 18 medals. This remarkable performance builds on the success of the previous edition in Yecheon, South Korea, where India finished third on the medal table behind Japan and China, with 19 medals.
