Indian Council of Agricultural Research celebrates its 95th Foundation and Technology Day

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) commemorated its 95th Foundation and Technology Day at the National Agriculture Science Complex in Pusa, New Delhi, with the presence of Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar as the chief guest. ICAR traditionally celebrates its Foundation Day on July 16th each year, but starting from this year, it has been designated as the ‘Foundation and Technology Day‘.

ICAR Exhibition: Showcasing Cutting-Edge Technologies for Sustainable Agriculture

The event featured state-of-the-art technologies pioneered by diverse ICAR institutes, aimed at enhancing agricultural production, quality, and farmer income. It showcased eco-friendly technologies designed for a wide range of crops, including rice, wheat, maize, pulses, oilseeds, millet (Shree Anna), and other commercially significant crops. The event emphasized the significance of mechanization, precision farming, and value-added products, as well as the importance of sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture. Visitors also had the opportunity to explore ICAR’s robust extension system and educational innovations that actively contribute to the successful promotion of agriculture.

ICAR: Driving Agricultural Research in India

ICAR, a self-governing entity operating under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, plays a vital role in coordinating, directing, and overseeing research and education in various agricultural domains, including horticulture, fisheries, and animal sciences. With 113 ICAR institutes and 74 agricultural universities located throughout the country, ICAR is at the forefront of conducting pioneering research in the field of agricultural sciences.

India: A Food Surplus Nation with Growing Global Demand

India is a food surplus nation, ensuring sustenance for 800 million people within the country. The agricultural products from India are highly sought after worldwide, with millets gaining particular prominence during the International Year of Millets. Notably, the revenue generated from agricultural and horticultural exports has surpassed 50 billion US dollars.
