Indian Historical Records Commission Unveils New Logo and Motto
The Indian Historical Records Commission (IHRC) is an apex advisory body on archival matters in India. Established in 1919, the IHRC serves as a national forum for creators, custodians, and users of records, advising the Government of India on the management of records and their use for historical research. The IHRC is headed by the Union Minister of Culture.
To visually communicate the unique identity and ethos of the IHRC, an online competition was launched in 2023 on the MyGov portal. From a total of 436 entries, the following design by Shri Shaurya Pratap Singh (Delhi) was selected as the new logo and motto:
Logo:
Motto: “Yatra Bhavishyatah Itihaas Rakshitah” (Where history is preserved for the future)
The motto holds great significance for the IHRC and its work, reflecting the Commission’s commitment to ensuring the safeguarding of historical documents and making them accessible for the benefit of present and future generations.
The new logo and motto effectively capture the essence of the IHRC’s role in identifying, collecting, cataloguing, and maintaining historical documents, manuscripts, and other sources of historical information. By doing so, the Commission ensures that valuable historical knowledge is conserved for future generations.
The logo’s design elements and the motto’s powerful message highlight the IHRC’s dedication to preserving India’s rich historical heritage and making it available for research and study.

The winning entry will receive a prize money of Rs. 50,000/-, while consolation prizes of Rs. 5,000/- each will be awarded to the shortlisted entries for the logo and motto.
The new logo and motto will serve as powerful visual representations of the IHRC’s mission, reinforcing its commitment to preserving and promoting India’s rich historical legacy for generations to come.
