Indian Navy INS Aridaman: Features, Role, and Strategic Importance Explained

Indian Navy has inducted the its third nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine which is INS Aridaman. With this induction it significantly strengthen the  India’s sea-based nuclear deterrence and also enhances the strategic military power. This development comes alongside the commissioning of the INS Taragiri and it marking the powerful expansion of the India’s naval strength under the leadership of Defense Minister of India Rajnath Singh.

What is INS Aridaman

INS Aridaman is part of the India’s Arihant-class submarines which is designed the carry nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles.

After this induction India has now has three operational SSBNs (Ship Submersible Ballistic Nuclear submarines) at sea for the first time in the naval history.

  • Aridaman can carry the K-15 and K-4 nuclear-capable missiles.

INS Aridaman vs Previous Submarines

India’s earlier submarines include the INS Arihant which was commissioned in 2016 and also the INS Arighaat which was commissioned two years ago in 2024.

INS Aridaman improves its capabilities by the carrying more missiles along with having the longer operational endurance and also to featuring enhanced technology and stealth.
