India's First Constitution Museum Marks 75 Years of the Indian Constitution
India’s first Constitution Museum, named “The Constitution Academy and The Rights & Freedoms Museum,” is set to be inaugurated by OP Jindal Global University on November 26, 2024. This initiative celebrates the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution.
The museum will provide an in-depth exploration of the Indian Constitution, highlighting its various sections and their significance. Visitors can engage with profiles of Constituent Assembly members, examine the debates and discussions that shaped the Constitution, and explore the document’s evolution through textual, audio-visual, and experiential formats.
The museum will feature artwork from the original handcrafted Constitution and pieces inspired by its themes. Additionally, a Children’s Corner will include interactive installations, quizzes, and graphic materials designed to educate young visitors about the Indian Constitution.
Anjchita B. Nair, the curator and CEO of Culture and Head at the Centre for Museums, emphasizes the museum’s goal of making the Constitution more accessible to the public, fostering a deeper understanding of its creators’ intentions, and appreciating India’s constitutional journey over the past 75 years.
Naveen Jindal, the founding chancellor of OP Jindal Global University, views the museum as a tribute to India’s unification under the Constitution, aiming to inspire future generations to contribute to the nation’s progress. Professor C. Raj Kumar, the founding vice chancellor, envisions the museum as a showcase of the Constitution’s making, honoring both its creators and those who have shaped its interpretation through amendments and landmark judgments.
