India’s First Tesla Centre to Open in Gurugram

India is set to mark a new chapter in its electric mobility journey with the launch of its first-ever Tesla Centre on November 26, 2025, at Orchid Business Park, Gurugram. This major development comes just months after the global EV pioneer officially debuted in the Indian market with its Model Y variants and follows the opening of Tesla Experience Centres in Mumbai and New Delhi’s Aerocity. With this launch, India becomes the 50th global market for Tesla, underlining the company’s cautious but strategic approach to entering one of the world’s most promising automotive frontiers.

Tesla’s Entry Into India: A Brief Overview

Tesla made its formal entry into the Indian market in mid-2025, launching two versions of its global bestseller, the Model Y,

  • Standard Range Model Y: ₹59.89 lakh
  • Long Range Model Y: ₹67.89 lakh
  • Both variants are fully imported from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory, incurring a steep 70% import duty, making them 30% costlier than their U.S. equivalents.

Despite the premium pricing, Tesla recorded 104 units in retail sales (as per FADA and Vahan portal data) across September and October 2025, signaling early traction in India’s growing luxury EV market.

Gurugram Tesla Centre: What to Expect

The upcoming Tesla Centre in Gurugram is expected to function as a full-service hub, combining,

  • Sales consultation
  • Delivery operations
  • Service and repair facilities
  • Possibly, Tesla’s Supercharging infrastructure

This will be Tesla’s first flagship outlet in the country designed to handle end-to-end customer operations, unlike the experience centres in Mumbai and Delhi, which are mainly for brand exposure and customer education.

Leadership and Strategy

Tesla’s India operations are now headed by Sharad Agarwal, who joined the brand in November 2025. Agarwal previously led Lamborghini India, and before that held senior roles at Mahindra Classic Legends and Audi India.

His appointment is seen as a step to leverage premium automotive expertise to position Tesla against established European EV rivals. Agarwal is expected to guide Tesla’s India strategy with a focus on,

  • Urban market penetration
  • Customer-centric retail experience
  • Localized brand-building in the premium mobility segment

Outlook and Strategic Importance

Tesla’s Gurugram centre launch aligns with,

  • Delhi-NCR’s EV readiness, backed by policy support
  • Proximity to HNI customers and urban innovators
  • Opportunities to establish EV charging networks and service reliability

The expansion is likely to be followed by further centres in Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune, if demand strengthens.
