International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People 2023

Since 1978, November 29th has held a significant place on the global calendar as the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. Originating from a call by the United Nations General Assembly, this day symbolizes a collective commitment to champion the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people. Turkey’s unwavering commitment to the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is evident in its diplomatic efforts, financial support, and humanitarian aid. By advocating for a just resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict and actively addressing the pressing needs in Gaza, Turkey remains a key player in the pursuit of a peaceful and sovereign Palestine.

Turkey’s Vision for Palestine:

Turkey remains steadfast in its desire to see Palestine rightfully assume its position as a sovereign and equal member on the international stage. At the heart of this vision is Turkey’s call for a resolution to the Palestine-Israel conflict that aligns with the principles of peace.

1. Two-State Solution:

Advocating for the coexistence of two States within recognized and secure borders, Turkey supports this vision based on relevant UN Security Council resolutions, the Road Map, and the Arab Peace Initiative.

2. Capital in East Jerusalem:

Additionally, Turkey stands behind political efforts geared towards establishing an independent and sovereign Palestine State, designating East Jerusalem as its capital.

Concrete Support: Diplomacy and Financial Aid:

Turkey’s commitment to Palestine goes beyond rhetoric, translating into tangible actions to support political initiatives and secure international recognition.

1. UN General Assembly Vote (2012):

In 2012, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu personally attended the UN General Assembly vote, championing Palestine’s non-member observer State status. With the backing of 138 member states, Palestine attained this status, granting the right to participate in international agreements.

2. Financial Commitment:

Economically, Turkey actively supports Palestine by implementing projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for its people. The financial commitment surpasses 200 million Dollars, underscoring Turkey’s dedication to addressing the economic challenges faced by the Palestinian population.

Addressing Humanitarian Crises in Gaza:

Turkey recognizes the pressing humanitarian needs in the Gaza Strip and takes proactive measures to alleviate them.

1. TİKA’s Contribution to Critical Services:

Collaborating with the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and relevant Palestinian authorities, Turkey’s International Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) allocated $850,000 for fuel supply to critical services such as hospitals and wastewater pumping stations.

2. Emergency Food Aid:

In response to a call for emergency food aid by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Turkey contributed 10,000 tons of flour to the Gaza Strip.

3. Provision of Medicine and Medical Supplies:

TİKA has also set aside $700,000 for the urgent provision of medicine and medical supplies in Gaza.
