International Labour Day 2024 Celebrated on 1st May

The strike culminated in the tragic events of Haymarket Square in Chicago on May 4th, 1886, where a peaceful rally turned violent, resulting in casualties among civilians and police officers.

May Day in India

In India, the first May Day celebrations were organized in Chennai on May 1st, 1923, by the Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan, led by Comrade Singaravelar. Two significant meetings were arranged to honour this occasion, marking the beginning of India’s recognition of this important day.

Today, various labour unions, political parties, and organizations across India organize rallies, seminars, and cultural programs to commemorate Labor Day and highlight the issues and concerns of workers in the country.
