IRCTC Chairman and MD Sanjay Kumar Jain Resigns
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Sanjay Kumar Jain has resigned from his position on the personal grounds and with this Ministry of Railways approved his request. With this company set to prepares for the leadership transition and most probably the Interim Chief will be appointed at the post for some time period.
IRCTC has informed the stock exchanges that the Ministry of Railways has approved the resignation of the Sanjay Kumar Jain from the post of Chairman and Managing Director.
According to the official communication, Jain’s resignation will become effective from the 20th July, 2026. This approval was conveyed via a Ministry of Railways letter dated on the June 22, 2026.
The company has also stated that arrangements for to assigning the additional charge of the CMD post will be announced separately until a permanent appointment is made.
In his resignation letter, Jain has cited the personal reasons for stepping down from the top leadership position.
He requested to be relieved after the completing the required notice period and he expressed the gratitude towards the employees, stakeholders and the Ministry of Railways for their support during his tenure.
While no further details regarding his personal reasons have been disclosed yet and Jain emphasized his commitment to the ensuring a smooth transition before leaving office.
Sanjay Kumar Jain’s tenure is widely regarded as the period of the substantial progress for IRCTC.
One of the most important achievements during his tenure was the IRCTC’s elevation from the Mini Ratna public sector undertaking to the Navratna company.
IRCTC also progressed from the Schedule B to Schedule A status and it showcases the its growing financial strength, operational performance and strategic importance.
Under the Jain’s leadership, IRCTC has also continued to expanding its tourism packages, catering services, online ticketing infrastructure and railway hospitality operations.
After the Jain’s resignation, the Ministry of the Railways is expected to appoint an interim chief or assign the additional charge to a senior official.
The selection of the new CMD will be important because IRCTC continues to plays the central role in the India’s transportation and tourism sectors.
