About IREDA:

  1. IREDA stands for Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency and is a financial institution that is wholly owned by the government of India.
  2. Established in the year 1987, IREDA primarily focuses on the development and promotion of renewable energy technologies, such as solar, wind, hydro, and biomass.
  3. The agency provides financial assistance to various renewable energy projects in India, including government and private sectors.
  4. IREDA’s main objective is to promote, develop, and extend financial assistance for the construction and commissioning of new and renewable sources of energy-based power projects in India.
  5. The agency also provides financial assistance for research and development in renewable energy technologies, energy conservation, and energy efficiency-related activities.
  6. Besides its core functions, IREDA also offers technical advisory services, project management, and capacity-building support for renewable energy projects. The agency is one of the major contributors to India’s target of achieving 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2022.
