Israel Appoints Roman Gofman as Mossad Chief Amid Rising Regional Security Concerns

Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed the Major General Roman Gofman as the next head of Mossad. Appointment was confirmed on April 13, 2026 comes at the crucial time when the Israel faces the complex regional security challenges. He will officially take charge on the July 2, 2026 and he will be succeeding David Barnea whose tenure comes to ends in June.

Who is Roman Gofman?

Roman Gofman is considered as one of the most trusted aides of the Prime Minister Netanyahu.

He is currently serving as the military secretary to the Prime Minister and he has been deeply involved to shaping the Israel’s defense and strategic decisions.

He was born in Belarus and Gofman migrated to Israel in 1990 and built the distinguished career in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
