José Antonio Kast Rist Takes Oath as the President of Chile

José Antonio Kast has officially taken office as the new President of Chile, marking a major political shift in the country. His victory represents one of the strongest moves toward conservative leadership in Chile in recent decades. In his first speech after taking oath, Kast promised strict action on crime, economic reforms, and stronger border control. His presidency begins at a time when Chile faces rising security concerns, economic pressure, and complex global challenges.

Kast Begins Presidency with Strong Promises

After being sworn in, José Antonio Kast addressed thousands of supporters outside the presidential palace in La Moneda Palace in Santiago. He said the country is facing serious problems such as organized crime, weak finances, and growing insecurity.

Kast described his administration as an “emergency government” that will focus on quickly fixing major issues in areas like security, healthcare, education, and employment. He also promised to restore public confidence and improve the functioning of government institutions.

Plans to Tackle Crime, Immigration and Corruption

One of Kast’s top priorities is improving national security. Soon after taking office, he signed several presidential orders aimed at strengthening border control, especially in Chile’s northern desert region.

The new president has promised strict measures to reduce illegal migration, fight organized crime, and eliminate corruption within government departments. His administration also plans to conduct a full audit of government finances to improve transparency and economic management.

Economic Reforms and Tax Changes

Kast’s government plans to introduce a tax reform bill in April. The proposal includes reducing business taxes from 27% to 23% over four years to encourage investment and economic growth.

The government also plans to offer tax credits to promote job creation. According to Kast, these policies will help boost Chile’s economy and support working families.

Transition from Former President Gabriel Boric

Kast has taken over leadership from former president Gabriel Boric. The transition comes during a period of economic uncertainty and increasing crime concerns across the country.

Chile is also dealing with global economic instability, partly influenced by international conflicts such as the Iran war, which has affected markets and trade worldwide.

International Relations and Geopolitical Challenges

Kast’s presidency will also involve managing complex international relations. Recently, he participated in a meeting hosted by Donald Trump in Florida to launch a regional anti-drug cartel initiative called “Shield of the Americas.”

At the same time, Chile must balance its relationship with major global partners like United States and China. China is Chile’s largest trading partner and the biggest buyer of Chilean copper, making diplomatic decisions especially important.

Political Challenges Ahead

Although Kast has ambitious plans, his government will face challenges in Congress, where political divisions may slow down reforms. Experts say that the success of his presidency will largely depend on how quickly he can deliver results in three key areas: security, immigration, and economic growth.
