Justice Manmohan was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court

As a Chief Justice of Delhi High-court Justice Manmohan took the Oath of Office in the Capital of India. The Oath was administered by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena at a ceremony where the new Chief Minister of Delhi also attended the event.

Appointment to Office

  • On July 11, 2024, the Supreme Court Collegium, comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices Sanjiv Khanna and BR Gavai, recommended Justice Manmohan’s elevation as Chief Justice.
  • The Centre subsequently notified his appointment on September 21.

Tenure

  • Chief Justice Manmohan is set to retire on December 16, 2024.
  • He will work till the retirement of his tenure.
  • Note : High Court judges enjoy the security of tenure till the age of retirement, which is 62 years.

About Chief Justice Manmohan

  • An alumnus of Campus Law Centre, Justice Manmohan enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi in 1987 and was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2003.
  • He was elevated as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court in 2008 and became a permanent judge in 2009.
  • Chief Justice Manmohan was appointed as additional judge on March 13, 2008. He became a permanent judge on December 17, 2009.
  • On November 9, 2023, he was appointed acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.
