Kabir Das was a 15th century saint and poet born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Some stories say he was born to a Brahmin mother but was raised by a Muslim weaver couple, showing the mix of Hindu and Muslim influences in his life. He lived from around 1440 to 1518.
Kabir Das taught that God is one and present in everyone. He was against blind rituals in both Hinduism and Islam. He believed in a simple life, love for humanity and spiritual truth. His short poems and songs, called dohe, are full of wisdom and easy to understand.
