Kapas Kisan App Launched to Empower Cotton Farmers

In a significant boost to the cotton farming community, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh launched the Kapas Kisan App on September 2, 2025. The mobile application is designed to streamline the procurement of cotton under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme, offering farmers a transparent, fast, and farmer-first digital platform to register, book slots, and track payments.

Purpose and Need for the App

Digitizing Cotton Procurement

  • The Kapas Kisan App aims to eliminate procedural delays and reduce farmer dependence on middlemen or manual paperwork. By bringing self-registration, slot booking, and real-time payment tracking to farmers’ fingertips, the app addresses long-standing issues of transparency, time delays, and distress sales in the cotton procurement process.

Ensuring MSP Access for All

  • One of the app’s core objectives is to ensure that all eligible cotton farmers benefit from the assured MSP procurement, thus protecting them against exploitative market conditions and price crashes.

Key Features of the Kapas Kisan App

  • Self-Registration: Farmers can create accounts using their mobile phones and Aadhaar-linked details.
  • Slot Booking: Schedule cotton deliveries to procurement centers in advance, avoiding long queues.
  • Payment Tracking: Monitor payment status in real-time after selling to government agencies.
  • Language Accessibility: The app supports multiple Indian languages to ensure inclusivity.
  • Farmer-Centric Design: Simple and intuitive interface designed for ease of use by rural users.

Wider Impact and Policy Integration

Aligns with Digital India and Agri-Tech Push

  • The Kapas Kisan App aligns with the government’s broader vision under Digital India and smart agriculture initiatives, integrating technology into traditional farming systems to enhance efficiency and farmer welfare.

Supporting the Cotton Ecosystem

  • The initiative is also expected to support the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) and other procurement bodies in digitizing records, improving logistics, and ensuring better communication between centers and cotton growers.
