In a recent report published by aviation analytics firm Cirium, the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru, also known as the Bengaluru International Airport, has earned a remarkable distinction. It has been recognized as the “world’s most punctual airport” for the past three consecutive months. This accolade underscores the airport’s exceptional commitment to on-time departures and an impressive travel experience for passengers.
Cirium’s report, titled ‘The On-Time Performance Monthly Report,’ specifically commended KIA for its consistently outstanding on-time departure performance. The airport, managed by Bangalore International Airport Limited, achieved punctuality rates of 87.51% in July, 89.66% in August, and 88.51% in September.
Cirium evaluates on-time performance (OTP) by assessing whether an aircraft arrives at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure time. The report covered approximately 89.03% of the total flights operated from KIA, amounting to 18,913 flights.
While KIA excelled in on-time departures, it had an OTP rate of 79.46% for arrivals, which was the lowest among the top five airports featured in the report.
Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport was the only other Indian airport listed among the top five punctual airports globally, further emphasizing India’s growing prominence in the aviation industry.
Notably, the Kempegowda International Airport expanded its services by commencing international operations from its Terminal 2, a development that occurred just over a month ago. This expansion serves as a testament to the airport’s continuous efforts to enhance its services and contribute to the country’s aviation growth.
The consecutive recognition of KIA as the world’s most punctual airport underlines its dedication to providing travelers with a reliable and timely flying experience, reinforcing its position as a leading international aviation hub.
