He opposed caste discrimination and lived a life of equality and fairness. After India’s independence, he played an important role in nation-building and later became the second Prime Minister of India in 1964.

Lal Bahadur Shastri became Prime Minister on 27 May 1964, after Jawaharlal Nehru’s death. His term lasted only 19 months, but he showed remarkable leadership during critical times.
